Instructions
- 1
Preheat the oven to 200 °C / 400 °F. Lightly grease a round or square baking dish with 1 teaspoon of the olive oil.
- 2
Heat the remaining olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onion and cook for 5 minutes until softened. Stir in the garlic and cook for 30 seconds more.
- 3
Add the chopped chard, salt, black pepper, sweet paprika, and dried oregano. Cook for 4 to 5 minutes, stirring, until the chard wilts and the stems are tender.
- 4
Add the cooked white beans to the skillet and stir for 1 minute so they absorb the flavor. Remove from the heat.
- 5
In a large bowl, whisk the eggs with the milk. Add the bread cubes and let them rest for 2 minutes so they absorb some of the liquid.
- 6
Add the chard and bean mixture to the bowl along with half of the grated cheese. Mix well to distribute everything evenly.
- 7
Transfer the mixture to the greased baking dish and level the top. Sprinkle the remaining grated cheese over the surface.
- 8
Bake for 25 minutes at 200 °C / 400 °F, or until the center is set and the top is golden.
- 9
Let rest for 5 minutes before slicing. Serve hot, making the most of the golden cheese topping and the soft interior of bread, chard, and beans.
Chef tips
If the bread is very dry, let it soak 1 extra minute in the egg and milk mixture. For a crispier top, broil for 2 to 3 extra minutes, watching closely.
Substitutions
You can use spinach instead of chard, pinto beans instead of white beans, and any good melting cheese. If you want a deeper flavor, add an extra pinch of paprika.
