Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 200°C / 400°F and lightly grease a baking tray or line it with parchment paper. Set aside.
- 2
2. In a large bowl, combine the ground turkey, breadcrumbs, beaten egg, milk, half of the shredded cheddar cheese, grated onion, garlic powder, sweet paprika, 3 g salt, black pepper, and 1/2 tablespoon olive oil. Mix just until combined without overpacking the mixture.
- 3
3. Divide the mixture into 8 portions and shape them into small elongated ovals, like little boats. Place them on the prepared tray and brush them with the remaining 1/2 tablespoon olive oil.
- 4
4. Bake the turkey boats for 18 to 20 minutes at 200°C / 400°F, or until fully cooked and lightly golden on the outside.
- 5
5. Meanwhile, place the potatoes, carrots, and water in a medium pot. Add 1 g salt and cook over medium-high heat until it comes to a boil. Then lower the heat slightly and cook for 12 to 15 minutes, until the vegetables are very tender.
- 6
6. Drain the potatoes and carrots well. Mash them with the butter and the remaining shredded cheddar cheese until smooth and golden. For an even silkier texture, mash a bit more with a potato masher or fork.
- 7
7. Warm the peas for 2 minutes in a small pan or in the microwave until tender and heated through.
- 8
8. To serve, divide the golden mash among 4 plates. Place 2 turkey boats on each portion. Decorate each boat with a few peas around it and one or two thin strips of red bell pepper on top like little sails.
- 9
9. Let the dish rest for 3 to 4 minutes before serving so the boats are warm, not too hot, and easy for children to eat.
Chef tips
For a softer texture, grate the onion very finely and do not overmix the turkey. If you prefer, you can make 12 smaller boats for very young children.
Substitutions
You can use ground chicken instead of turkey. The cheddar can be replaced with mild mozzarella. Peas can be swapped for cooked corn, and the red bell pepper can be replaced with thin strips of cooked carrot for decoration.
