Instructions

  1. 1

    1. Brew the Earl Grey tea with hot water and let it steep for 3 to 4 minutes. If heating water in a kettle or saucepan, aim for about 200°F / 93°C. Then cool the tea completely before using.

  2. 2

    2. Wash the fresh figs and blackberries. Remove the fig stems and cut the figs into quarters for easier blending.

  3. 3

    3. Add the chilled Earl Grey tea, figs, blackberries, coconut milk, frozen banana, maple syrup, chia seeds, and vanilla extract to a blender.

  4. 4

    4. Add the ice if you want a thicker and colder smoothie.

  5. 5

    5. Blend for 45 to 60 seconds until completely smooth, creamy, and evenly violet in color.

  6. 6

    6. Taste and adjust with a little more maple syrup if you prefer a sweeter profile. Serve immediately in two chilled glasses.

Chef tips

For an even silkier texture, let the chia seeds sit in the coconut milk for 5 minutes before blending. For a smoother finish, you can strain the smoothie to remove some blackberry seeds.

Substitutions

You can replace the coconut milk with oat milk if you do not need a certified gluten-free version. Maple syrup can be swapped for honey if you are not aiming for a vegan option. If you do not have Earl Grey, use mild black tea and add a small strip of orange zest.
