Instructions

  1. 1

    1. Place a small skillet over low heat and toast the ground cardamom for 30 to 45 seconds, stirring constantly to deepen its aroma. The pan will be about 250-300°F (120-150°C). Remove from the heat immediately.

  2. 2

    2. Add the cubed mango, plain yogurt, milk, rolled oats, honey, lime juice, chia seeds, vanilla extract, toasted cardamom, and ice to a blender.

  3. 3

    3. Blend for 45 to 60 seconds, or until completely smooth and creamy. If you prefer a lighter texture, add a little more milk and blend again for 10 seconds.

  4. 4

    4. Let the smoothie rest for 1 minute so the chia and oats can hydrate slightly and create a silkier texture.

  5. 5

    5. Serve immediately in 2 chilled glasses. If desired, stir gently before drinking to keep the texture even.

Chef tips

Use very ripe mango for natural sweetness and a more velvety texture. If using frozen mango, reduce the ice slightly so the smoothie does not become too thick.

Substitutions

You can replace the honey with maple syrup for a strictly vegetarian version. Plain yogurt can be swapped for lactose-free yogurt, and the milk for oat beverage if you want to avoid dairy; in that case, check labels to adjust allergens and dietary tags accordingly.
